Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
With temperatures rising to heights of 30oc during a heatwave, there’s nothing better than coming home to a cool home in the peak of summer. Air conditioning units are becoming more popular in the UK as not only can it be used to cool home in the summer, but it can be used to keep a stable temperature all year round.
Everyone has a refrigeration unit, a fridge, in their home to keep food cool and fresh. It is normally kept at around 4 to 5oc in homes as that is the best temperature to keep food and drinks cold and fresh. It is good to regularly maintain a fridge so that it will stay reliable and clean. Make sure to clean the fridge regularly, clean the compressor coils every six months, and ensure that the temperature is always set between 4 to 5oc to get the best temperature.
What are the differences between Air Conditioning and Refrigeration?
Although both air conditioning and refrigeration are designed to keep items cool, they do have their differences.
Refrigeration
In order to create the cooling effect inside a fridge or chill room, pipes filled with coolant are forced into gas form through a process known as compression. To repeat the process, a compressor should be used to increase pressure and temperature so that the liquid can be transformed back into gas, but only after putting the coolant through a condenser first. A constant stream of coolant helps remove heat and lower temperatures in a confined space as it flows through tubes.
Air Conditioning
Air conditioning works similarly to refrigeration as it also uses a built-in coolant, however it also utilises the surrounding air from the room within its process. As a result of the large amount of ductwork and fans that carry hot and cold air, air conditioners can deliver the right temperature over much larger areas, unlike conventional fridges. While cooling, it removes heat and moisture to create a more comfortable room temperature which provides a better environment to work in.
How much does it cost to install Air Conditioning?
The cost for installing air conditioning can vary depending on the size of the house/ space, the air conditioning unit you choose and extra features (timer, remote control) you choose. On average, for a small home office, installing air conditioning can cost anywhere between £1500 to £3000. For a double bedroom air conditioning installation can cost up to £3000. If you are looking to install air conditioning in most rooms in your home, the this will cost between £5000 to £10000.
