How To Take Up a Concrete Patio

Like all parts of the garden the patio can date and age with time. This can lead to parts becoming damaged, as well as it becoming a bit of an eyesore. However, removing a concrete patio is a lot easier done than you might perceive once you have the knowhow and correct tools at hand.

The skill saw is a great addition for those wishing to sort out their patio area. We would suggest that neither this tool, nor this project is for greenhorns, a little bit of understanding can produce significant results.

Skill Saw

Diamond bladed skill saws work best, so use one to cut between half an inch to an inch into the patio area you wish to remove. The diamond blade should have no problem in doing this and is a fast and efficient way to do this.

Jackhammer

Once the area you wish to remove is cut out, next use a jack hammer to break up the concrete. The fact you have cut out the area from other areas on the patio means cracks shouldn't spread to other areas of the patio.

Patios have a tendency to be shallow at the edge and become deeper at the centre, so be aware of this when both using the jackhammer and the skill saw.

Next, begin to break up the desired area with the jackhammer. This should see it break into smaller pieces. When you've finished you should now be easily able to remove the broken concrete to a truck, skip or wheel barrow, allowing you to replace, refurbish, or get rid of the area completely.
