The state of your walls is another factor to consider; once they are clean and clear of old paper, the decorator may need to fill in any gaps or uneven areas of the wall for a smooth finish. Small divots in the wall should not have a significant impact on cost, but a wall that requires re-plastering would significantly increase prices. Unfortunately, it is difficult to tell how good your walls are until the old paper is removed, so keep that in mind when receiving wallpapering estimates. Although plastering may increase the expense, it is definitely worth it since smooth walls mean that the wallpaper will stay longer and look more professional.
