External Rendering

Rendering a property's outside wall simply involves repairing and maintaining any damaged outside surfaces. Professional renderers look for cracks, peeling, flaking, and moisture before attempting to fix the wall and enhance the surface quality. Rendering an outside wall has several benefits, including reducing heat loss and making the surface more weatherproof and durable, as well as boosting resistance to mould and algae.

Companies provide a variety of wall render treatments, and many different types of rendering may be found under a variety of different names and brands. Rendering your entire property might be a pricey home improvement job, but it is an investment that enhances your wellbeing and increases the value of your house.

Can you render an external wall yourself?

Unless you are an expert, it is not a good idea to try to render your own wall. The rendering materials and techniques utilised can take years to learn and perfect, and there are countless ways to get it wrong, which almost always happens!

How to render a wall?

Rendering begins with cleaning the surface to ensure it is dust-free and free of any loose or flaky residue, then dampening and priming the surface with a bonding solution before applying a high-quality high-polymer render that must be mixed with clean water to achieve the desired consistency. After the beads have been attached, the render can be spread with a trowel onto the wall with a thickness of up to 12mm, depending on how terrible the foundation is.

After the initial foundation coat has been applied, the area must be prepped for the second pass of render, which should be done before the first coat has completely dried. This second pass is a skimming coat that cleans up the look. When the second render pass has dried, use a plasterers sponge to smooth off any high spots or voids. The fresh rendered surface is then available for any decorative treatment after it has been dried.

Choosing a Plasterer for external rendering

Rendering is a profession that takes years to perfect, so find a contractor or firm that has been in business for a long time and can show you prior samples of their work as well as give client recommendations. Then compare estimates from at least three different competent and trustworthy contractors to ensure you receive the greatest bargain and the most professional job possible.
