Most traditional toilets are attached to the floor in bathrooms.

There are some very good reasons why this sort of toilet may be your best choice if you are thinking of doing up your bathroom.

Having one fitted might not be as expensive as you think.

Wall hung toilets save space

New houses are being built with small bathrooms.

When we are converting or extending our homes we like to be able to squeeze in a shower room or downstairs loo wherever we can these days.

Having a toilet which can be fitted onto the wall rather than standing on the floor frees up more floor space for you

This also makes it easier to position your shower cubicle and sink.

Keeping the floor clear also gives the appearance of your bathroom being bigger as the first thing we look at when considering the size of a room is how much floor we can see.

Wall hung toilets give a streamlined look

Most designs have the plumbing completely hidden away behind the wall. Sometimes the cistern is hidden too.

This will certainly give your bathroom the minimal look, but it can mean that the plumbing is a bit of a nightmare to get at if you get a leak.

Ask your plumber about whether to add an access panel so you can fix things easily if they go wrong.

Cleaning is easier when you have a wall hung toilet too as it is easy to clean the floor underneath the toilet. Dust and dirt cannot get trapped around the sides or back as it is a sealed unit.

Wall hung toilets can be cheaper

As wall hung toilets are currently so popular, the number of them on the market means that prices have been coming down steadily.

A basic wall hung toilet is often no more expensive than a floor standing one.

From a plumber’s point of view they are just as easy to fit especially if you are having a complete bathroom renovation done, or building a new bathroom from scratch.

If you are trying to fit a new wall hung toilet in an existing bathroom space though, it is true that installation costs may be higher.

Replacement parts or repair bills are no more expensive either.

Costs for installing wall hung toilets

You will have to also consider whether the plumber has to take the wall down to put the cistern inside when calculating costs.

If you are considering getting this sort of work done it’s usually best to get a plumber along beforehand.

This way you can then ask them to look at the space and suggest the most cost effective option.

Always get at least three quotes from plumbers in writing to help you make your decision about which company to use. You should never pay the full price of the job up front.
