If you’re handy at DIY, fitting a bath should be a simple job.

If not, then you’re best advised to get a bathroom installer to fit the bath for you.

Getting Started

Firstly, turn off the water supply.

This guide assumes that you’ll want the bath fitting at the same spot as your last one.

If not, you’ll have to re-route the waste pipes and adjust the supply pipes accordingly.

Next Steps

Fix the frame of the bath.

You may have to do this with the bath upside down. Your new bath will come with bath installation instructions and you should follow these carefully.

Fitting Taps To Your Bath

Fit the taps or mixer and the tap joints.

If it’s a plastic bath, you should have a reinforcing plate to fit underneath the taps.

The waste outlet needs fitting next.

If it’s a flanged grid, fit it over the outlet hole and fix a screw at one end of the flexible overflow pipe.

Fit the top of the overflow pipe into the overflow outlet, fixing it in place with screw and washer.

If your bath comes with a banjo overflow, thread it on to the waste outlet and fix in place with another screw and washer.

Fixing The Bath Waste

Attach the trap and push the bath into its position in your bathroom.

Use a flatboard underneath so that you don’t damage the floor by placing too much weight on it.

You may need a hand with the heavy lifting work. Make sure the bath’s level using a spirit level.

You may have to adjust its legs. This should be easy, just unscrew the nuts and adjust to the height you want the bath to be.

Fit the farthest tap with a flexible connector, making a compression joint.

You may have to cut the supply pipe.

Now connect the second tap tail. Connect the trap outlet and waste pipe - they should push together easily.

Now test the joints by reconnecting the water supply. There should be no leaks.
