Gas Boiler Brands

Although they all do pretty much the same thing, there is a variety of different brands in the gas boiler market.

Boiler brands differ in price, reliability and ease of installation, so before investing in a new boiler it is worth doing some research into the larger players in the gas boiler market.

Top Boiler Brands

When you’re browsing for boilers, there are some brand names which you will see time and time again.

The “best” boiler for you will depend on your needs and circumstances, but buying one of these well-known brands will make finding spare parts easy, and there will be plenty of engineers who are skilled in repairing and installing them.

The main UK boiler brands to look out for are:

  • Baxi
  • Worcester
  • Ideal
  • Glow-worm
  • Vaillant
  • Potterton

Vaillant

Vaillant is one of the oldest players in the boiler market, and was founded in Germany in 1874.

Initially the company specialised in installation, and moved into production and installation of boilers in the first year of the 20th century.

In a recent survey by Which magazine, Vaillant customers reported the fewest faults with their boiler when compared with other major manufacturers, and the brand was also rated highly for customer service and aftersales service too.

The best-selling Vaillant products are in its ecoTEC range, which is A rated for energy efficiency and although Vaillant prices are sometimes a bit higher than their competitors, you are less likely to have faults develop with your Vaillant boiler.

Worcester Bosch

If you prefer to deal with a British manufacturer, then Worcester Bosch is the company to choose. It produces both oil and gas fired boilers, and scores only marginally less than Vaillant in the reliability and customer service surveys.

Worcester are so convinced by the reliability of their boilers that they offer as much as 5 years warranty on some of their products and as one of the largest suppliers of boilers in the UK market there is no shortage of heating engineers who are qualified to install and repair Worcester Bosch boilers.

Potterton

Potterton is another long established British heating brand, and is well known for producing a range of gas boilers as well as other heating products such as solar panels.

Potterton is not rated quite so highly for customer service or reliability as Worcester Bosch or Vaillant, but they are often found to be slightly cheaper too.

Potterton is now part of the larger Baxi group, and also offers extended warranties on their products.

Vokera

This Italian owned company has been in the UK for over 30 years, but is less known than some of the bigger brands.

Vokera have over 1.5 million boilers installed in UK and Irish homes, but the brand is still pretty well unknown outside the heating industry and as such ranks lower in customer satisfaction surveys.

Vokera also make ground source heat pumps, biomass boilers and solar panels, and as such are at the forefront of heating technology.

Glow Worm

Glow worm is a sub brand of the Vaillant group, and is well known for producing efficient, cost effective boilers which run on either mains gas or LPG fuel.

The brand has won several 'Best Buy' awards and has a long history in the heating market, but is just not as high profile as its parent company.

Spares and engineers are readily available for Glow worm products, and their range of gas boilers are sold and maintained by British Gas.
