If buying standard size blinds, these are generally supplied with a kit including the fittings needed to fix the blinds to the windows.
The brackets will need to be screwed into place on the wall or at the top of the window, and the only tools needed to do this are a measuring tape to get the correct position and a drill.
The process is the same for vertical, venetian and roller blinds.
Before starting fitting window blinds, take the time to read through the instructions provided thoroughly and make sure that you have all of the tools needed to complete the job properly.
For novices in hanging blinds, kits with everything provided is by far the easiest option.
Other window blinds
If blinds are not supplied with the brackets, these can be bought in most large DIY stores.
Make sure that the correct bracket is bought to support the size and the weight of the blinds.
It is difficult to fit brackets onto the PVC surround of modern double glazed units, and fixing them into masonry or plaster is far easier.
Measure carefully and mark with a pencil where the brackets are to be fixed.
Once all of the holes have been marked, check to ensure that you are happy with the position of the brackets before beginning the drilling.
Drill the holes and then place a rawl plug in each to allow the screws to grip into the brick work.
Screw all of the brackets into place and then position the blinds into the brackets.
Safety And Window Blinds
Window Blinds are not dangerous, but hanging cords can be a hazard for small children, who can get the cords tangled around their necks.
This problem is easily dealt with by fixing a cleat high up on the wall out of a child’s reach, and twist the cord around it.
Special cord tidy kits are also on the market as are special cords which will snap should they become tangled around a child’s neck.
Safety is naturally highly important to consider when it comes to fitting window blinds.
