How Lighting Can Effect The Home
How Different Types of Lighting Can Effect Your Home
Lighting has the ability to completely transform the appearance of the home. Different lighting can create different atmospheres and effects which give rooms their purpose. Whilst stark, bright lights help to improve visibility in some rooms, soft glow lamps create a calming vibe perfect for relaxing in others. Whatever the primary purpose of your room may be, there’s a lighting style to enhance to purpose of the room.
Functional Rooms
Some rooms within the home are there to help you function with your everyday life. Kitchens and bathrooms in particular, have a main purpose of functionality – curbing hunger and maintaining personal hygiene are their primary functions. In order to be able to do these functions, you need to be able to see properly! Bright lighting is a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms as optimum visibility is paramount.
Halogen Downlighters
Halogen downlighters are a popular modern choice of lighting for the home as the fixture is attractive and they provide a very bright light. They’re inset into the ceiling so they don’t protrude downwards. Their compact style makes them a popular choice for minimalist homes. The beauty of downlighters is that you can install as many of them as you like to achieve the desired level of brightness for your room.
Spotlights
Spotlights are also a popular bright lighting choice for within the home. Their most common fixture sets are 3, 4 and 6 spotlights per fixture, although single and double fixtures are available too for smaller rooms. Spotlights are easily adjustable so they can be angled to direct the light to the preferred areas. Spotlights are suitable for all rooms of the house, but are typically found in kitchens, bedrooms and studies/home offices.
Lighting In Rooms for Relaxation
Living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms are primarily for relaxing in. Living rooms and dining rooms are often used for socialising with other people in your house, or seating guests in. A relaxing atmosphere is required for these rooms in order to make your family and guests feel at home. Soft glow lamps can provide a warm light which doesn’t have too much glare and is perfect for unwinding in.
Lighting For Entertaining Guests
Chandeliers and light fittings which also serve ornamental purposes are popular for living rooms and dining rooms. These rooms have to be attractive in order to impress guests so a striking light fixture is an absolute must.
Lighting has the ability to make or break the appearance of the home; inadequate lighting can reduce the functionality of some rooms whilst lighting that is too bright can ruin the ambience of others. Before buying a light fixture, establish the room’s primary focus in order to get the right fixture and bulb wattage.
