How To Create The Perfect Garden

Steps To Creating The Perfect Garden

If you are like most people who love the outdoors, as soon as the weather warms you will be itching to get out in the fresh air and begin setting up your garden for the year. There are several aspects that need to be considered when designing the perfect garden and the thought of getting started should excite even those most loyal to the cooler months. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or expert when it comes to design, these tips can be very helpful when it comes to creating the perfect garden. Before getting started, however, it is important to clean out the garden. You want to be sure to have all of the dead foliage and old furniture out of the way so that you have a clean slate to begin with.

Step 1 – Consider Your “Must-Haves”

One of the most enjoyable and exciting parts of planning your garden will be determining what you “must have”. Though it would be very nice to have a fish pond, water fountain feature, gorgeous table and chair set, and the most exotic landscaping choices, your budget may not be flexible enough for all of those features in your garden. It is recommended by expert garden designers to focus on one or two features, such as a smooth stone patio and gorgeous table and chair set, then add on other things throughout the years as your budget allows.

Step 2 – Think About the Space You Have

One mistake that people commonly make when planning their garden is to use every open and available space. Part of the pleasure of having a garden is to have a place to relax, entertain and even dine. When the area is overly filled with furniture, features and foliage, it may seem cramped and uncomfortable. You certainly want to make sure you are leaving some open space in your garden in order to enjoy nature at its best.

Step 3 – Draw Your Garden Out

At this point in the planning stage, you likely have a great idea of what you want your garden to look like. Even if you are not an excellent artist, it can help to plan and enact your design ideas by putting them on paper. This drawing does not need to be extremely detailed, but you should at least be able to draw something out, especially if you will be having someone assist you in the building and setting up of the garden. For example, using a simple rectangle on a piece of paper to represent a garden sofa is sufficient.

Step 4 – Stick with One Style

When planning your perfect garden, it is important that you stick with one style in order to make it look great. For instance, if you choose a garden sofa that has a more modern look and that is made with a specific material, such as rattan, the rest of your garden furniture should be designed in the same way. It will look out of place and inconsistent if you use rattan for your garden sofa but use metal or aluminium for your garden table.

Step 5 – Set a Theme and Stick to It

The final step to planning the perfect garden will focus on the landscaping. To create the perfect garden, choose a theme for your plants and flowers and stick to that plan. Just as you should stick to one style when it comes to your garden furniture, your plants should be no different. For instance, if you are focusing on an exotic Asian themed garden with bamboo and Japanese irises, Scots heather and native roses may seem to stick out and look awkward.
If you are able to follow these tips, it will just be a matter of time before you will be enjoying a quiet summer’s evening in your own perfect garden.
