Work Recommences On Fitzrovia Hotel In Central London
Renovation Work To Soon Recommence
Renovation work will soon recommence on a grade 11 listed hotel in Fitzrovia. Shepherd Construction will return to the site it abandoned in August 2010 when JJW Hotels & Resorts, the previous owners of what used to be called the Berners Hotel, went into receivership.
Located in central London, Shepherd will transform the Grade II listed building into a luxury hotel with 175 bedrooms for the Ian Schrager, the USA hotelier and Marriott International partnership under their Edition brand. The contract is valued at £33 million.
Project Summary
The original building which dates back to 1835 comprised 5 separate residential houses and it is intended that the exterior will be restored maintaining its original features with extensive interior refurbishment. The project is likely to be completed in December 2012.
Edition Hotels Projects
There are two existing Edition Hotels one in Waikiki Beach in Hawaii which opened in opened in September 2010 and the other in Istanbul. The London Edition will open in 2013 and form part of a group of 6 further hotels that are planned by 2015 in three continents. Shepherd As Project Architects
In addition to the construction, Shepherd is also the project architect and will be using SES, which is part of the Shepherd Group for all mechanical and engineering elements, with the internationally acclaimed Gleeds Cost Management Limited as the project quantity surveyor.
Other Shepherd Construction Projects In The UK
Shepherd Construction has recently completed a similar project at the Hurworth Rockliffe Hall located close to Darlington transforming it into a 5 star, luxury hotel at a contract value of £45 million. The Rockliffe Hall hotel resort is listed in the world top 10 Travellers’ Choice Hotel Awards.
Other Shepherd Contracts
Other lucrative contracts that Shepherd is working on include a luxury apartment complex close to Regent’s Park valued at £27 million, a warehouse conversion in Pimlico to create apartments valued at £4.5 million and in London’s Holland Park, a school construction project valued at £58 million.
