Asbestos is like few other building materials in that it is considered to be hazardous waste. Despite this, where there is asbestos in a building, the advice is usually to leave the asbestos where it is and to monitor its condition to make sure that it is not deteriorating to the point where it could be release dust and fibres into the air. This may mean that the asbestos should be painted over, to keep dust and particles in, and that a surveyor should be employed to come in and check the condition of the asbestos and make recommendations on how to manage it.
